Trend Alert! My Favorite Velvet Pieces Under $100
If you had a relatively normal childhood, most of the wintery special occasion dresses you wore were big, puffy and velvet. Red and green velvet at Christmas time, black or brown velvet for grown up parties and your favorite princess dresses at halloween also came in velvet. It was everywhere. Little did we know when we were spilling spaghettios on our pretty velvet dresses that this luxe fabric would eventually make it back into our closets as adults.
This season's velvet trend has been a long time coming - appearing on runways a few years ago. It took a little while for it to gain mainstream traction, but it's here folks. Fall is a somewhat predictable fashion season where, unlike Spring, so on a very basic level you know what to expect; layering, darker colors and jewel tones, jackets and warm weather accessories, leather bags and coat, suede everything, etc. This is why it's exciting when a fabric that is so unique makes a come back.
A lot of people who don't follow fashion, and even a lot who do, don't focus on trends because of their volatile nature, which makes perfect sense because why spend your hard earned money on something that will look ridiculous in a few months? That being said, sometimes a trend that you see on the runways is so beautiful and well executed that it creeps into other designers' collections, then slowly, little by little into our lives, and before we know it, it's not a trend, it's a permanent thing, like booties a few years ago or capes, ponchos and kimonos, which now have their own shopping category on most shopping websites. I really hope this is the case with this super soft, textured fabric. For those of us who follow the trends and know very well how long it could be until they come around again, we have a natural instinct to snatch it all up before it goes away again because it will come around again, it just might not be for another decade or so, and I can't wait that long. For others though, who don't want to make a big investment in one specific trend, here are some of my favorite velvet pieces from this season, all for under $100. You're welcome.
