This Summer's Skirts and How to Wear Them: Part 2

This Summer's Skirts and How to Wear Them: Part 2

Last week's post This Summer's Skirts and How to Wear Them: Part 1 was quite the hit with readers, which is good because HERE'S PART 2! Please try to contain your excitement, ladies. In part 1, we checked out tulle skirts, cutouts, mesh and tied skirts. Another popular fit this summer (and pretty much always) is the a-line mini. Check out my post where I pair all sorts of them with button-downs for a go-anywhere, classic look. I seriously want to buy ALL of the tied skirts I see around - they are so fun. This time around, we'll take a look at how to style sheer layered maxis, pleats, wraps and florals.

How to Wear It

Layered maxi skirts can be tricky to wear if you aren't going to a cocktail event or evening out. They, especially in black, tend to look quite dressy. In order to make this elegant skirt look more approachable, top it off with something soft and simple like a neutral colored silk cami or a loose, crepe blouse.

If you have the guts (and the legs) to wear this skirt, then props to you, lady. The beautiful, and strategically placed, embroidery on this skirt is breathtaking. For a less matchy look than what is paired in the image, try a solid black crop top that is just a bit fitted. It's a fashionable option that will keep the focus on that beautiful skirt.

This striped print will look great with any kind of white blouse, long sleeved or sleeveless, doesn't matter. It doesn't get much simpler than that. White ankle strap heels or pumps would look great as well. If you want to try something a bit more interesting, layer a sheer navy tunic over the skort.

It might seem like the all white option belongs on the "simple" side, but I put it here on purpose. Although the silhouette and color are simple, the tie that hangs lower than the hem of the skort can be tricky. Keep whatever you pair with this tucked in. I would choose a neutral shade bodysuit so that the white skort look doesn't get too preppy.

How to Wear

I remember back when I was in elementary school and long, floral skirts were in style. Personally, I love the more edgy florals because I have a pretty blunt and sarcastic personality and feminine florals just don't suit me. I would wear a textured bodysuit with this, or if you're not into the whole snaps-on-your-crotch fad, try a lace tank or colored tissue tee.

OK folks, this is one crazy-ass skirt. It's so crazy that I can't help but love it. This spring/summer season has florals from head to toe and from minimalist orchid prints to straight-up tropical or Dr. Quinn styles. To avoid looking like a curtain, opt for tiny florals bunched together or large florals spaced out. If you have the guts to wear this skirt, than I say go all-in with the rest of the outfit. This would really be a great opportunity to try the 90's trend of strappy tank tops over baby-tees since you could play up the colors in the skirt.

Shimmering Pleats

Pleats usually have a tendency to look a bit preppy, which if you like preppy, is good, but this season's pleats have a nice edginess to them. They're wider, smaller, shimmery, see-thru, in patterns, in brights, you name it. This midi skirt would look great with a very minimal top, like a white baby tee bodysuit or a crepe cami tucked in. Keep the heels simple for this outfit.

OMG this skirt. Peekaboo pleats have become pretty popular this season, where a different color or texture flashes out from the folded material, so from different angles, it is very interesting to look at. I would love a black lace top with this, especially an off-the-shoulder one.
