How to Watch Fashion Week 2016 from Your Couch
It's that time again folks, New York Fashion Week has arrived. I'm actually a few days late on this post, but you know, that's life. Anyhow, about 2.5 days of shows have gone by and I finally had some time today to sit down and get caught up. Since I live in Michigan, have no money or time to visit any of the fashion week cites and are about to pop a baby out of me any day now, I am limited to the shows that I can stream over the internet.
As far as streaming goes, things are a bit different this season. I'm not sure if it's an effect of Mercedes Benz no longer having their hands in everything or streaming becoming the most popular way to watch things these days, who knows. I usually use Fashion Week Online and New York Fashion Week Live (both from Indie Fashion Media) as my prime scheduling and streaming sources, but this season they are only showing the shows that are available to the general public (most shows are only open to fashion industry personnel such as buyers). The Fashion Times has tons of great info on schedules, where to stream, who's at the shows type information as well as the same streaming that's available on the other sites mentioned here. They also have a decent bit of street style work.
However, there is a newcomer (at least new to me), NYFW.com. They have all of the shows that are streamed (not just to the general public) and have a nice app in the iPhone App Store. On the site, they list the complete schedule, give bio's of all designers/labels and video of current and past runway collections. They even provide social media links to those brands. You can view the FW16 shows here. I love that you can step through the video, per outfit, as well as share that specific look image on social media (I'll be using this for all future fashion week posts). They also have some video of street style here. I've not yet found a way to share the actual videos (...there's probably a reason for that), but there is a TON of material on this site, so you can explore on your own.
As far as street style goes, while there aren't any dedicated runway shows for that (why aren't there???), there is more than enough material out there to quench that thirst. Check out some of the following blogs that are taking us to FW16 fashion week!
