Mia's: Eastown's Most Glamorously Eclectic Boutique
First of all, Happy Halloween everyone! If you grew up like me, playing dress up for hours, sometimes days on end, you should read on and definitely head over to Mia's Dress Boutique on Wealthy st. in the Eastown neighborhood of Grand Rapids. This shoot was a tough one to style in the time given, simply because of how many fun and unique pieces they carry. They have everything from formal dresses and sets to casual separates and novelty accessories, so when it came time to narrow my selection down to 3 or 4 looks, it was really tough. This was also the first shoot to feature Style Logic's first assistant stylist, Alyssa Ferguson.
When you walk into the store, this shop screams "boutique." The owners, Lisa and Natalie Henley, a dynamite mother-daughter (respectfully) team, fell in love with the Eastown neighborhood which served as the perfect location to set up shop. When asked why they chose that particular site, Lisa says, "The building and space we leased is brand new, never been used! We loved the big windows, and we love Eastown!" With delicious restaurants like Wolfgang's and The Electric Cheetah just down the street, as well as The Cakabakery a few doors down, there is no shortage of reasons to head out that way. You could pretty much throw a dart at a map of that part of town and end up somewhere awesome. The small, but glamorous boutique is decorated with mini champagne bottles and vintage inspired fashion wall art. It felt very glamorous, a bit like what I'd imagine a Mariah Carey dressing room would feel like, only more spacious. The service is great as well. While styling the looks, I was able to witness the level of attention each customer gets and the enthusiasm that the owners have for their clients. It is extremely easy to see that this is not just a job for these two, but a passion.
Mia's not only has a notable and consistent emphasis on embracing each individual's unique style, but on staying affordable as well. Lisa elaborates on these efforts by saying, "We would like to say that we have boutique quality and style without the typical high prices! Clients are ecstatic and happily surprised when they see not only our pricing, but our high quality. We are always having a sale! We will keep this a very shoppable and affordable boutique." This is quite a refreshing point of view, especially for being in a part of town that is growing so fast. You can find a beautiful homecoming dress, a wedding guest dress, a variety of little black dresses, as well as super-chic separates for the office, vacation or you know, to do a bomb diggity photo shoot in. All of this reflects well their vision for the store. "After being Inspired by shopping for my daughter's homecoming and prom dresses, we thought it would be an amazing adventure to assist in finding dresses and gowns for women and girls for special events! After going to Atlanta and Chicago for our apparel and accessory shows, we took our vision a step further when we decided to also include some of the high quality separates, casual dresses, and unique shoes and accessories that we loved. As a result, we are now an eclectic boutique with beautiful gowns, every day dresses, mix and match separates, layering pieces, and wonderful jewelry and purses."
Mia's has a bit of something for everyone, which is likely one of the reasons the shop has been so successful. Lisa says, "You never know what you may find at Mia's! We carry many different lines and styles. Women are wonderful individuals with very different shapes, sizes, tastes and budgets, so we do our best to find styles for everyone!" She also wants shoppers to know that if you're going to be out perusing the stores this November, or possibly even looking to get some early holiday shopping done, "...it's been almost one year already, so stay tuned because we will be having specials and celebrations all month!"
I hope you all enjoy this shoot as much as we all did making it, and make sure to stop by Mia's this November for some awesome anniversary deals! Tell them Style Logic sent you.
